Natural Environment of Lefkes
The oldest olive grove of Paros is found in Lefkes. Its location on the mountains of the island protected it from devastating fury of the Venetian Morozoni, who in the Venetian Turkish wars of the 17th century, burned the low lying olive groves of the island. The ancient olive groves in forms sculptured by time stand calm and wise, proof of victory of nature over history.
In a portion of the olive grove, extending 20 acres, LEFKES VILLAGE is found. At a second level, around the pit, the pigeonry, and the winepress there is a 6acre garden with fruit trees characteristic of the Cycladic flora. Lemon, bergamot, cherry, medlar, pomegranate, apricot, peach, plum and almond trees are irrigated by 4 pits and fertilized with compost, an organic fertilizer that is produced on the farm, offering fruits full of flavor.
Cypress, shina, oleander, fig trees, prickly pears, stubbles and jasmine complete one of the most beautiful gardens on the island.
