Giorgos (George) Pittas, the founder of the museum of LEFKES VILLAGE, is one of the
pioneers of the cultural tourism in Greece with a lot of attendances in corresponding
congresses. He published the book about Paros in 1999, “Paros – Travelogue in Space
and Time”, a publication that wants to present the island for the needs of an uneasy
and curious sightseer rather than these of a hasty tourist. Thus, along with the walks
and the excursions at the monasteries and the churches, in the book are also presented
subjects of local gastronomy and architecture, elements of nature and cultivations,
histories of daily life where customs are recorded and the central philosophy core of
the residents’ life.
In 2007 Giorgos Pittas published “The Signs of the Aegean”, an impressive bilingual publication rich in texts, sketches and photographs that according to book critics, constitutes a genealogy of the Aegean Sea. The 29 marks signal and condense not only charm but also the substance of life in the Aegean. The third publication in parallel English translation has circulated in May 2008.
